Prints, Drawings and Photographs
1919 - 1912
It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of long time gallery artist and friend Elfriede Abbe. Miss Abbe, 93, passed away Monday, December 31,2012.
We will miss her frequent visits, quirky humor, and the delight that she took in the world around her.
Elfriede Abbe enjoyed a productive lifetime of artistic endeavor, recognition and achievement. A graduate of Cornell University in 1940, Abbe worked as sculptor, wood engraver and botanical illustrator, and published numerous hand-printed books on a manual press that, at the time of her death, still took up the better part of her home studio. Her wood engravings are in collections including the libraries of Cornell University, Yale University and Carnegie-Mellon University. Her sculpture is included in the collections of Cornell University, McGill University and Smith College. Abbe’s sculpture “The Hunter” was exhibited at the 1939 New York World’s Fair.
